Tired Of The Fit? How To Choose The Perfect Pair Of Dress Pants

If you're tired of grabbing a pair of pants from the local department store, only to find out that they don't fit right, it's time to go beyond the shelf. You need a pair of pants that were truly designed for comfort and fit. Here are some simple tips that will help you choose the perfect pair of pants.

Waistband or Not

When it comes to choosing a pair of pants, one of the first things you need to do is decide on the waistband. You might think that all pants have waistbands, but that's not entirely true. Some pants have what's called a continuous waistband, which means that you won't see the traditional band around the waist. Instead the waist will flow seamlessly to the rest of the pants. Both types of waistbands provide you with the fit and comfort you're looking for in a great pair of pants.

Belt Loops or Suspenders

While you're focused on the waistband, you'll want to decide on belt loops or suspender buttons – or both. Belt loops are placed on the waistband to hold your belt in place. However, if you're more of a suspender person, you may want to forego the belt loops and choose a pair of pants with suspender buttons instead. Suspender buttons allow you to fasten your suspenders to the inside of your pants, which leaves a more streamlined appearance. If you want to wear a belt and a pair of suspenders, choose pants that provide you with both options.

The Highs and Lows

When you're choosing the perfect pair of pants, you want to make sure that you consider the highs and lows – or the rise. The rise determines the cut of the pants below the waistband. You have three options for the rise – high, mid, and low. High rise pants will fit right around your natural waist, which is about where your belly button is located. Low-rise pants fit closer to the natural hip mark, while mid-rise pants fit somewhere in the middle. If you're not sure which type of rise is best for you, spend some time trying on different styles.

Leave Room for Adjustments

When choosing a pair of pants, don't forget to leave room for some adjustments. You never know when your dinner is going to leave you feeling a little tight around the waist. Side adjusters and after-dinner splits allow you to make some extra space in your waistband to accommodate those mealtime expansions.
