Depending on the type of job you have, it is possible for your work pants to develop difficult-to-remove stains and spots. Unfortunately, this can force you to spend far more than is necessary replacing these garments. Luckily, routine maintenance can help you dramatically lengthen the usable lifespan of the pants. In particular, there are two steps that you can follow to help your work pants avoid these problems.

Use Shampoo To Remove Oil Stains

If you work with mechanical devices, there is a chance that oil stains are a problem that you must constantly battle. These stains can seem daunting to remove, and many people make the mistake of assuming that there is no way of salvaging the pants. Fortunately, this is far from the case, and you can actually use shampoo to help lift these stains out of your pants.

At the end of the day, you should gently rub a healthy amount of shampoo onto the stains and allow it to absorb into the fabric for at least an hour. When enough time has passed, thoroughly rinse the pants under cold water, and place them in the washing machine for a full cycle. While these steps can remove many stains, it is essential for you to do these steps as soon as you return home. If the oil is allowed to stay on the pants for an extended period of time, it can become virtually impossible to remove.

Avoid Over-Pretreating

In an attempt to remove stains, many people will make the critical mistake of leaving the pants in the pre-treatment solution for far too long. While it may seem like this will make it easier to remove the stains, pre-treatment solutions are often very strong, and this can cause holes to form in the pants or leave permanent stains.

For difficult-to-remove stains, you may need to pre-treat the pants multiple times. To do this, you should leave the pants in the solution for no more than a half hour before rinsing them off in a sink under cold water and placing them back into the solution. Repeat this process as many times as necessary to remove the stains.

Keeping your work pants in excellent condition can help ensure that you look great while on the job, and proper maintenance can help reduce your yearly expenses on work clothes. By using shampoo to remove oil stains and avoiding over pre-treating, you may find that your work pants are far more durable than you originally thought.
